The first thing to understand is that the brain and the body is ONE system. We can tell our bodies to stay calm.

Here’s the mantra. Type it out. Laminate it. Keep it in your wallet. Take it out and read it when you feel stressed, out loud if necessary. Force your brain to take control of your body’s reactions.

  1. Stay calm
  2. Relax
  3. Breathe deeply
  4. This will soon pass. 

Remember, when dealing with the brain (just like when dealing with children), use positive instruction. “Relax” instead “Don’t panic”. The brain doesn’t know what to do with “Don’t panic”. All it hears is the “panic”.

Make sure the brain hears “calm” and “relax”.
